Introduction to the Calgary Plan
The Calgary Plan was adopted by Council in 1998 as our Municipal Development Plan. The Plan addresses land use, development and transportation planning for The City of Calgary. The Plan is broad in scope and also addresses the health of the environment, the vitality of the economy and the social well being of the community.
One of the key themes of the Plan is the integration of social, economic and environmental objectives in decision-making processes. The Plan challenges all of us to thoughtfully consider how our choices, both lifestyle and public investment, affect our quality of life and our environment.
Staff, developers and the public should be aware of the Plan's content because it provides direction to more detailed plans, policies and programs of The City of Calgary. A number of amendments have been made to the Calgary Plan and are available with the on-line version of the Plan.
Since the adoption of the Calgary Plan our City has experienced significant population and economic growth. In 2006 the City of Calgary Sustainable City Team was formed to focus on the development of an integrated Land Use and Mobility Plan to achieve a more sustainable city.
